Trip to Wilmington to visit Hudson (new nephew) and race the White Lake Triathlon
We arrived in North Carolina after a long drive from Rhode Island and found some dirt roads for a shakeout run.
Our pre-race activities included all of the standard activities one would expect: A visit to the trampoline park with Julia(niece), changing flat car tires, family walks through the neighborhood with my sister's family, and a nice walk along the beach under the sun!

Race Morning went by quickly, and before we knew it we were wading into the cool waters of White Lake to begin our 1.2 mile open water swim.
After a long winter of preparation and dedicated training, a champion was revealed. Maddie broke the female course record and won the half-ironman distance race by over 25 min. Like a true champion she overcame the open water to set herself up to bike and run her way to finish her longest-distance race ever!

On our drive back we decided to make a small detour down memory lane and visit Durham, where we jogged along the Al Buehler/Duke XC trails, walked the Duke Gardens, and stopped for a top-notch hamburger at BCBB.

After departing Durham we took 'the scenic route' along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Taking advantage of dispersed camping in George Washington National Forest in Virginia, we slept poorly under a full moon and clear skies. On our return through CT we caught some great scenery on a small highway en route to New Haven.
Then I unpacked the car
